private eye — about 1 year ago
Maybe I've been watching too much Veronica Mars, but this is what I found myself looking into this morning:
How to become a private investigator
Washington State Licensing: Private Investigator Agency
There's this baby following me. He's probably 2 or so, and only communicates via sign language, and for some reason has a little tuft of gray hair on the top of his head. He signs to me that he'd like to turn his little gray tuft turquoise like my hair. Today, on the bus, I was sitting in the very back and he was sitting in the very front and it was a completely packed bus and he still managed to get my attention and tell me again that he wants that little gray tuft turned turquoise.
Sometimes I don't trust the narrator in my head. Where does that voice come from? -

This week's winner is Freddy Wolf Molitch, aka Baby Corndog McLeod, the "Oofty Goofty, wild man of Borneo." At Egger McLeod Happy Hour, Freddy opted to get the very unique "McLeod Cut" from our in-house stylist, Sean Lowry. Freddy, way to show the love!Members, be sure to show us your photo booth love at our weekly Egger McLeod Happy Hour: Thursday, 6-9pm. If you are not a member, you can still show your love to the photo booth, either during our regular hours, Tues-Sat 10-6, or at this week's First Friday, 5-9pm.

Band to Record Live Album During PerformanceSEATTLE--January 25, 2007-- "Seattle's all-star, all-live house band" SynthClub, featuring Maktub's Reggie Watts and Daniel Spils, Decibel Festival organizer Sean Horton, and producer Steve Scalfati, will perform Thursday, February 15, with a 9:00 p.m. set time at McLeod Residence. McLeod Residence, Belltown’s newest art gallery, is located at 2209 2nd Avenue. Tickets are $5 at the door, payable by cash only.
SynthClub is a quartet creating sophisticated, supremely danceable house music for live audiences, a rare treat for electronic music fans who usually experience the genre in album form. The group features the vocal and synthesizer talents of Seattle notable Reggie Watts, spontaneous laptop beats from Sean Horton a.k.a.. DJ Nordic Soul, and off-the-cuff synthesizer work from Steven Scalfati and Daniel Spils. Eric Grandy of the Stranger describes the group as “...smart, floor-filling,” and “...whose live take on vocal house is enough to win over skeptics of the genre"
In a twist that combines progressive house with a live Blue Note-style recording, SynthClub will record their performance at McLeod Residence and offer it as a free downloadable album at mcleodresidence.com.
McLeod Residence is a new concept of art and gathering space that opened January 5, 2007, in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood. Both McLeod Residence and SynthClub embrace technology, collaboration, art and the beauty of work in progress, and this marriage of venue and performer is a perfect fit. Currently on display at McLeod Residence is a group exhibit featuring photographs and digital art mounted on lightboxes, an installation by artist and musician Paul Rucker, and an exhibit of antique paintings curated by art dealer Jay Franklin. The gallery rooms will be open during the SynthClub performance.

Our 100th member! — about 1 year ago
Tobias Kinnebrew, local laundry detergent inspector and host of legendary events such as Ms. Russet's 17th Annual Sticky Wicket Social, is our 100th member. We've been getting a lot of excitement about the memberships, and to this end we're going to be fleshing out in more detail exactly what memberships are. Adding things like document notarization, and more specifics about the kinds of events we'll be hosting. We're also working to make them economical for us (we would be doing nobody a favor if we broke the bank on cheap drinks and member parties), so will be raising prices to $75 for a year/$300 for a lifetime after our 150th member signs up. If you're on the fence about getting one now or later, you might want to sign up before prices are raised. Remember that memberships aren't about money or creating any kind of financial barrier for people who are excited about joining... it's purely a way to prove to us (and to yourself) that you're invested in the idea. So if you can't afford either the current or future price we are very interested in hearing your ideas for other forms of investment (helping us set up or clean up, inventing a new game, putting up posters for our upcoming crazy Seattle Notables show, or just do something absurd or brilliant McLeod-related). Okay? -

Know your neuroses; know your medication. — about 1 year ago
A neurosis is any kind of mental imbalance that causes stress or confusion. I'm trying to think of a way to spin neuroses positively, because really all a neurosis is is a bundle of energy that wants to fix or find something. Cleaning obsessively is a neurosis. Balancing your checkbook is a neurosis. Trying to make Miranda July fall in love with you by writing drafts of emails but never sending them is a neurosis. Fixating on strange drink concoctions is a neurosis. Perfectionism is a neurosis. Detail orientedness is a neurosis. Eating healthy is a neurosis. We feel compelled to do something and don't know exactly why. We get things done. It works. Life goes on. Let's embrace our neuroses... know them at least.
And know how you medicate yourself for them. Self-medication is probably responsible for 95% of my actions. I'm always trying to adjust my outlook or mood or attitude to be more productive and maybe a little more crazy. Drinking coffee is self-medication. Exercise is self-medication. Getting drunk is obviously self-medication. Talking to people is self-medication. Eating is self-medication. Writing your thoughts down on livejournal is self-medication. Watching a movie is self-medication. So is reading a book, calling someone, writing a song, sending a text message, reading the paper, squirming, surfing the internet, screaming, crying, being anti-social, dancing, shopping, dressing yourself, washing yourself, making out, lurking, interacting, and sleeping. We are constantly monitoring ourselves (maybe subconsciously) and adjusting our actions to help balance things out. We are self-medication experts. We should know what we're self-medicating for.
Do you know your neuroses? Do you know your medication? -
