New shows in the neighborhood — about 1 year ago
Our new show opens this Friday. Here's what else there is to check out in our neighborhood:
- Roq la Rue: Ronald Kurniawan, Femke Hiemstra, and David Ho explore the ideas of the enigmatic and the ways our minds try to map the unknowable.
- BLVD Gallery: New works by Todd St. John and Gary Benzel, the creators of the fabled independent labels Green Lady and HunterGatherer.
- Suite 100 Gallery: New works by Todd Karam. Studies of textures, surfaces, and the encounters we have with them.
- Pitcairn Scott Gallery:
- Viveza Gallery: Three artists' explorations of the new landscape, continuing the ongoing environmental discourse through art.
- Fancy + Pants: Clare J. Bowers and apparently people with cherries for heads.
There will also be a new show downstairs at Pitcairn Scott Gallery, but the website hasn't been updated with the info yet. Add any other nearby shows that you know about in the comments.
Hope to see you on Friday!

I want to create a mostly unbranded membership card for members... what do you think of this? We can call it the Cloud Card. Or rather the Cleod Card.

The certificate is in the mail — about 1 year ago
Buster McLeod added an entry about become a notary public:Talked to the lady from the Notary Public office today and we straightened out the issue with Lele not being a relative, and she says the certificate is in the mail! Awesome. Only thing left is to get a stamp, but I’m going to mark this complete as the legal stuff is done… and my personal challenge was to finish this before March 1st, and I don’t want to forget to mark it complete before then. That was close though. What should my next personal challenge be?

Silly notary office! — about 1 year ago
Buster McLeod added an entry about become a notary public:I just called the Notary Public office about why they haven’t written back to me and given me my official notary badge and stamp. It turns out that they thought my application was incomplete because one of my endorsers was Lele and, they say, “you can’t be endorsed by a family member”. Of course, I had to explain that we weren’t related… that it was PURE COINCIDENCE that we have the same last name. But, I had to explain all of this on Layla’s voice mail so we’ll see what they have to say tomorrow.

enjoyment categories — about 1 year ago
Did you know that there are categories of enjoyment? Seven to be exact. Imagine eating an orange, and all the different ways you can enjoy it. You can enjoy it because it is tasty (pleasing to the senses), you can enjoy it because it's healthy (satisfies the body), you can enjoy it because it puts you in a better mood (mood-enhancing), you can enjoy it because a friend is sharing it with you (social meaningfulness), you can enjoy it because you've never had an orange before (novelty), you can enjoy it because it's the easiest thing to eat at the moment (practicality), and you can enjoy it because you think eating an orange makes you look good and gives you something to do (self-reflective). Can you think of others? I love how there are so many different ways to enjoy things, and that we don't tend to think about what kind of enjoyment we're having. I'm just curious to see if I tend to favor one type of enjoyment over the others. So far I think the main enjoyments I have are pleasing to the senses, social meaningfulness, and mood-enhancement. What do you enjoy about drinking? For me, it's the social meaningfulness, and secondarily the mood-enhancement. You could potentially rank the categories of enjoyment and give yourself points according to the primary enjoyment category of every meal you eat, every movie you watch, every book you read, every conversation you have, etc. Sometimes we use enjoyment as an escape from something we're not enjoying. We surround ourselves with enjoyment like a smokescreen. The mood-enhancement category is big for me... I'll check email as a way to maintain a certain level of constant distraction during the day as I mull other projects and ideas over. And then sometimes I'll check email for practicality because I need information, or I need to get someone's email, or set up a meeting, or whatever. We do the same things and yet enjoy them differently depending on the context. Isn't that weird? Or no? -

Chuck Barris (Sam Rockwell) has it all -- a hot TV hit, "The Gong Show," and the love of a good woman (Drew Barrymore). But he's got one big secret: He's a CIA assassin who kills while purportedly escorting his game show winners on their vacation prizes. George Clooney directs and co-stars with Julia Roberts in this film based on the book of the same name, authored by the real-life Barris. -

McLeod of the Week: Mike Bodge — about 1 year ago
Mike Bodge, the CEO of LOLZ LLC, is this week's winner of McLeod of the Week. Mike, also known as Roffles McLeod, claims he "hax0red" the photo booth with my compact mirror. The McLeods are grateful to Roffles for being the creative director of the McLeod Residence logo, and also for designing the Seattle Notables Costume Party e-card (which you'll see soon!). Thanks, Mike!
